”Our Mission is to promote confident and healthy attitudes toward our skin, focusing on health and well-being, rather than beauty. Let's move away from terms like 'younger-looking', 'anti-aging', 'problem' skin, and move towards 'natural', 'healthy', 'glowing' skin. Let's change our goal to feeling and looking healthy, rather than 'beautiful'. You know how the saying goes...."Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
Only The Finest Ingredients
We fully embrace the drive towards healthy living, and organic skincare is a very important part of this idea. We use only the best quality organic and natural ingredients in our products.
The Soil Association certifies all our organic suppliers, so we are confident that our ingredients are truly organic. We are proud to follow the COSMOS organic guidelines set by the Soil Association for cosmetics and skincare:
“Organic Beauty is the formulation of cosmetic products using organically farmed ingredients. These ingredients are grown without the use of Genetically Modified Organisms (GM), herbicides, synthetic fertilisers and more.1.”
Protecting Our Skin
Skin is the largest organ in the human body, protecting us from harmful invaders such as bacteria, viruses and allergens.
Skin disorders such as dermatitis and eczema can be made worse by damage to the skin barrier. Recent research shows that dysfunction of the skin barrier plays a central role in atopic eczema 2, which is particularly distressing in babies and young children.
Emollients such as balms, oils, and creams, can improve the skin barrier, helping the skin to heal. They work by reducing skin dryness and cracking, and preventing irritants and allergens from penetrating the upper skin layer. This means that the chance of inflammation occurring is significantly reduced. We can enhance this effect, by using natural, organic products, as they are more likely to be free of irritants and potential allergens3.
Your safety is paramount, so all the ingredients in our products are checked by a qualified safety assessor. Additionally, all our products are certified by a Chartered Chemist. This means that they meet the stringent requirements for skincare and cosmetic products in the UK and EU.
Our products are created using a wealth of experience and knowledge, based on scientific and practitioner principles. You can be confident that the products have been ‘tried and tested’ by holistic therapists and their clients.
Protecting Our Planet
We believe that sustainability and protecting our environment is essential. We can protect ourselves by limiting our bodies exposure to potential harmful chemicals by choosing natural and organic products. By choosing wisely, we can also help to protect important pollinators like bees.
This means avoiding using ingredients that have been sprayed or treated with herbicides and pesticides, or are genetically modified. Additionally, our formulations never include ingredients that may result in the exploitation or harm of our flora and fauna.
To reduce fuel miles, we buy from local suppliers where we can. When we need to look further afield, we choose suppliers who demonstrate the same ethical and sustainable values as ours.
We choose to use suppliers who have the same ethical values as us, such as no testing on animals. Our suppliers’ ethical values are extremely important to us. For example, how the ingredient or packaging was produced, is as important as the quality of the finished product. Are the workers treated fairly and ethically? Is the process sustainable? Have the ingredients or the finished product ever been tested on animals? We ask all these questions to ensure, as far as possible, that we are enhancing communities, rather than damaging them.
As champions of healthy living and organic skincare, most of our products are suitable for those following a vegan lifestyle. We clearly identify product ingredients to allow you to choose according to your beliefs. For example, where we use beeswax (such as in our balms), we ensure that it has been harvested according to strict organic principles . This means that the bees’ health and well-being are prioritised and protected.
We choose our product containers and packaging very carefully. We are in the process of changing our packaging, as our current supplies are used up. At the moment, we use glass containers, which can be recycled. If glass is unsuitable, we choose a specific type of plastic called PET (polyethylene terephthalate) that does not react with our products. It is strong, stable and shatter-resistant. Most importantly, it is easily recyclable. We have explored the use of 100% recycled PET containers, together with biopolymer bottles, made from sugar cane waste. However, we believe that we need to move away from plastic as much as possible, and therefore, we will be using aluminium jars for our lip balms, and aluminium bottles for our body oils and sprays.
Our jar and bottle labels use water-dispersed acrylic adhesive, which means they can be recycled alongside the glass and PET bottles, so, there is no need to remove them first.
Securely wrapped with love!
We use plant-based (cellulose) clear bags to protect your products in the post, and surround them with starch-based ‘peanut-style’ filling. Both are bio-degradable, so can go on your home compost heap. The outer packaging we use is also recycled (both the jiffy bags and boxes), and can be recycled again. Even the tape we use to seal the boxes (and fragile marked tape) is both recycled and re-cyclable!
Please try to reuse or recycle all our packaging. We give you some suggestions on up-cycling or recycling on each product page. For example, the loose fill packing can be used in the bottom of your large plant pots, keeping the pot light and easier to move. If you empty the pot at any time, all the contents can go on the compost heap and contribute to your new compost.
We will be developing all our new products with plastic-free packaging. So, watch this space!
Small and Beautiful
An essential part of our mission for healthy living and organic skincare is using only the best quality, natural and organic ingredients, to produce the finest products. But we go a step further…. we lovingly craft all our skincare in small batches, so we can use just a small amount of natural antioxidants in our oil-based products. This prolongs the life of our products by reducing free radical activity, keeping them fresh for longer.
Our small batch size means that your product will be newly made, to give you the freshest product possible.
We use natural preservatives when our products such as water-based creams, and butters, need extra protection from microbes.
