Who We Are
At Purely Skincare, we formulate and manufacture natural and organic skincare products to sell to people, who, like us, care about what we put on our skin and the effect we have on our environment.
Only The Finest Ingredients
We use only the best quality organic and natural ingredients in our products.
All our organic suppliers are certified by the Soil Association, so we are confident that our ingredients are truly organic. According to The Soil Association:
“Organic Beauty is the formulation of cosmetic products using organically farmed ingredients. These ingredients are grown without the use of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s), pesticides, herbicides, synthetic fertilisers and more 1.”
Protecting Our Skin
Skin is the largest organ in the human body, protecting us from harmful invaders such as bacteria, viruses and allergens.
Damage to the skin barrier can result in disorders such as dermatitis and eczema, particularly distressing in babies and young children2 .Recent research has shown that dysfunction of the skin barrier plays a central role in atopic eczema.
Using emollients such as balms, oils and creams improve skin barrier properties. They do this by preventing skin dryness and cracking, as well as preventing irritants and allergens from penetrating into the epidermis, so reducing the chance of skin inflammation. Natural and organic products can enhance this effect as they are more likely to be free of irritants and potential allergens3.
All our products are certified by a Chartered Chemist.
This means that the ingredients in our products have been checked by a qualified safety assessor and meet the stringent requirements for skincare and cosmetic products in the EU.
Our products have been created using a wealth of experience and knowledge, based on scientific and practitioner principles. You can be confident that the products have been ‘tried and tested’ by holistic therapists and their clients.
Protecting Our Planet
Sustainability and protecting our environment is essential.
By using natural and organic ingredients in our products, we can protect ourselves by limiting our body’s exposure to potential harmful chemicals. By choosing wisely, we can also help to protect important pollinators like bees.
We buy from local suppliers where we can, to reduce fuel miles. Where we need to look further afield, we look for suppliers who demonstrate ethical and sustainable practice.
We choose to use suppliers who have the same ethical values as us, such as no testing on animals
This means no testing on either the ingredients nor the finished product. Most of our products are also suitable for vegans, and where we do use beeswax (such as in our balms), we ensure that it has been harvested according to strict organic principles, where animal and insect health and protection is at the heart.
All our products are free from parabens, silicones, mineral oil, palm oil, GM soya oil, and other eco-unfriendly substances.
Eco-friendly packaging - enabling recycling and reducing landfill
We choose our product containers and packaging carefully.
Where we can, we use glass containers, which can be recycled. If glass is unsuitable, we choose a specific type of plastic called PET (polyethylene terephthalate) that does not react with our products. It is strong, stable and shatter-resistant. Most importantly, it is easily recyclable. Indeed, it takes less energy to recycle than glass. We are currently exploring the use of 100% recycled PET containers, together with biopolymer bottles, which are made from sugar cane waste and are fully compostable.
Our jar and bottle labels use water-dispersed acrylic adhesive, which means they can be recycled alongside the PET bottles – no need to remove them first.
To protect your products in the post, we use biodegradable cellulose clear bags, surrounded by biodegradable starch-based filling, both of which can go on your compost heap. The outer packaging we use is also recycled (both the jiffy bags and boxes), and recyclable. Even the tape we use to seal the boxes (and fragile marked tape) is recycled and recyclable!
We encourage you to reuse and recycle all our packaging and give you some suggestions on each product page. For example, the loose fill packing can also be used in the bottom of your large plant pots in place of polystyrene as packing, keeping the pot light and easier to move. If you empty the pot at any time, all the contents can go on the compost heap and contribute to your new compost.
Small and Beautiful
To produce the finest quality natural and organic product, we use only the best quality natural and organic ingredients.
But we go a step further…. all our products are carefully made in small batches, so we can use just a small amount of natural antioxidants.
Small batch sizes mean that you can be sure that our products are fresh and haven’t been sitting on a shelf for 3 years!
